No help, no support?Imagine how difficult life would be if, regardless of what you bought; furniture, a microwave oven, a TV, a car, a computer etc., there was never any kind of help or support, or even anyone else who knew anything about what you’ve bought, or if they did, were not prepared to help you.
sWell something along those line happens all the time and never more so than with websites.
Losing your domain name and website:
We have new people contact us on almost on a weekly basis, distressed because they have a domain name and a website but they cannot get in touch with their current web-developer and have no idea where to turn.
In the best cases the client has all the access codes they need for the domain and hosting and we will usually take-over control of their website, if appropriate, to give them peace of mind in the knowledge this won’t happen again and they are now back in control.
In the worst cases, it’s about as distressing as it gets, especially if the website is the client's shop-window and their business relies heavily on it.

In early 2010 we had a call from someone whose business is based in the UK and abroad. They were no longer able to contact their web-developer so they couldn’t make changes or updates to the website.
The hosting company would not speak to them because they weren’t paying the bill for the hosting; their web developer was (it was his account).
We managed to 'capture' all the website files because it wasn’t a database-driven site and we just needed to gain access to the domain name so we could move it to our control. However, there was worse to come…
The web developer had registered the client’s domain name in his own name, not theirs, so they didn’t even own the domain their website was using, and, to cap it all, the domain was due to expire in a few months.
Yes, they could wait for it to become available again and re-purchase it, but a) this process can be 3 months or more, and b) there is no guarantee the web developer doesn’t have a multiple-domain account with a domain registrar (as we do) where domains are renewed automatically. If this happens they will never get control.
This is a true scenario and one which happens more than you would care to believe. Don’t let it happen to you.

The internet is not rocket science:
Well ok, the internet was invented by a very clever chap (Tim Berners-Lee) and developed by a team of techno-geeks working at a defence research centre in Switzerland so it is quite clever, but you don’t need a Masters Degree in rocket science to see and use the internet.
Yes, the internet is a pretty complex place and there are so many facets to understand and get to grips with but our clients each have businesses, some in more complex subjects than others, such as finance, law, engineering, electronics, cake making etc., where we don’t need to fully understand how they do what they do; we just need to understand the basics of the business they are running and the market they need to get to.
The same is true in reverse; you don’t need to fully understand every aspect of domain registrations, website hosting, search engine optimisation, web stats and analytics etc., because that’s our job.
The internet is clever and it can be pretty technical but many domain registration and hosting companies as well as many less-than-scrupulous (or lesser experienced) web developers will put up smoke and mirrors to fool you into believing they are master of the universe, indeed ‘webmasters’, and all you need do is trust them and pay your bill. That’s precisely why many people come to us to sort out the mess they’re in.
At Paramount Website Design we don’t work like that. Instead we are open, honest and will do everything we can to ensure that as our client, you are in full control, are not beholden to us but will be fully supported and looked after, understanding as little or as much as you choose.
When we develop a website for you, we are not selling you a product and walking away. We are working with you and your business to develop an online presence that will enhance and, hopefully generate revenue (either direct or indirectly) for your business. Websites don’t come with a manual but we are the next best thing.
